I am Indian dude, have a passion of film making since childhood, and have done TV soap in India. I am here in Perth since 2009 as a permanent Resident and looking forward to work with Aussie TV and Film Industry. Wish to start a perth based local film making group. where writers, cameraman, directors, editors, music composer and everybody else who has the passion of film making can come together and work for each other freely to get their job done so everybody can get a chance to make their dream true. would like to make short films for festivals. Hey guys,
im 20, live in perth and have finished cert. 3 in screen (film and tv) and am now halfway through cert 4…im studyin at central tafe and its brilliant…the lecturers (mostly) are great and you dont just learn the basics, you learn everything…get to use the latest/broadcast quality/ industry standard equipment, and we are shooting so much already! have a look on my myspace page if you want to see some stuff i did in cert 3 (before that course i had barely picked up a camera let alone shot a short film!!)
there is more stuff on its way very soon (A LOT BETTER QUALITY lol)
if you need any info on the tafe course, please give me a shout and ill be glad to help!

thanks guys, yeah im thinking of just doing a short course to learn the basics and then take it from there, as you said youll still come out of it with only the basics. ive booked my first music video though which is cool. Whats the best-cheap video camera out there nowdays, I’m thinking of buying just a small compact handheld but then if I want to use it for bigger things that could be a problem.

BTW: what I of course failed to include in “Passion, education and self discovery” was ‘inspiration’, or in other terms, a degree of creativity – one can not learn creativity through education apart from methods to enable what it is you may have… C’est la vie!

What Mr Trivia states is correct – however he [it??] has taken my reference to ‘education’ as being the deciding factor: education is just part of the experience as the overall summation with one’s own passion and self discovery is what makes things happen.

“The whole is greater than the sum of its parts” so to speak – education hopefully will make the self discovery process a little more meaningful and less repetitive and/or redundant. Education, however, is no substitute for passion, although education may enhance one’s passion with the right lecturers, or even inspire you to prove them wrong if they are crap – which in itself is not necessarily a bad thing either… as long as the passion remains strong for continued self discovery.

I don’t agree with Tiger Leo and Ed. You may actually learn a thing or two at school, however when you leave you will still be barely trained, even if you went to the best film school and paid full attention. If you realise that you’re there to learn the basics and nothing more, you’ll do okay.

We did go to university, but I think TigerLeo covers the main points there. If you haven’t been to school, now is a good time to begin a career in filmmaking. You’ll only learn bad habits at school. Kindergarten is another matter. Most of the ground work can be done there.

:) hahaha, i love it! im definately making a couple of films in perth once i actually start going to school and learning about it.
Just wondering, did you guys go to a university or get ‘taught’ about film making or did you just wing it?
